Cape Wrath Walking Weekend
Cape Wrath - Sandwood Bay - Sheigra
Supported walking weekend to Cape Wrath and Sandwood Bay, returning via Sheigra. In 1998, Rebecca Ridgway was joined by Cameron McNeish on the walk to Cape Wrath while filming for his television series 'Wilderness Walks'.
Starting from the Kyle of Durness, we walk to Cape Wrath, the most north-westerly point on the UK mainland and Scotland's only Cape. From Cape Wrath we head south across the ‘Parph’ to Sandwood Bay. The following day we continue our journey south along the dramatic sea cliffs to Sheigra, the most north-westerly community on the British mainland.
Full programme
Saturday
We will meet you at the Rhiconich Hotel at 3pm. Drive to our car park, unload your equipment into our vehicle, then there is a 10 minute walk on footpath to Ridgway Adventure. (Please note it is not possible to drive to our base.) Meet our staff and settle in over a cup of tea followed by a short introductory walk to see the area we will be walking. After dinner we plan our route and prepare for departure the following morning.
Sunday
After crossing the Kyle of Durness by ferry, we take the minibus to Kearvaig and walk the sea cliffs to Cape Wrath light house. From Cape Wrath we walk southwards to the wide golden strand of Sandwood bay where our support team set up camp for our arrival. Spend the night where Viking longships landed and savour stunning isolation.
Monday
Pack up camp and enjoy the beach before a leisurely walk along the cliffs southwards to Sheigra. Here our support team will collect us. After hot showers and tea at Cape Adventure, relax in front of our wood burning stove before a well deserved home-cooked dinner.
Tuesday
Depart after breakfast.
