October Half Term Family Holiday

Stay in The Wooden House at Ardmore for the week, just yards from the seashore.   Enjoy home-cooked breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals prepared for you by Rebecca.   Three and a half days of adventures tailored to your family and guided by Mark on the sea and in the hills with the remaining days and evenings to enjoy the peace and quiet.  An autumn holiday for adventurous families.

The Wooden House

Built from cedar in the earliest days of the Adventure School, The Wooden House was for many years the hub of adult courses based at Ardmore.   Now converted into a comfortable home and sitting just yards from the seashore, it is the perfect base for a family adventure with us.

Ardmore is not on the road.   We bring you across the sea loch in our workboats, landing on the slipway in front of the house.

The Wooden House

The Wooden House sleeps six, in one double room with en-suite bathroom and two twin bedrooms, one of which is accessed from a wooden staircase at the rear of the house.  A family shower room serves the twin rooms.

The bedrooms are heated with portable oil-filled radiators and the beds have electric blankets to keep you cosy.   Our water supply is fed from a nearby hill-loch and we provided bottled water for drinking. The house has a 4G internet connection.

The large dining/sitting room has full height windows with views across the sea loch to the mountains beyond.

On the lower floor there is a well equipped kitchen where Rebecca prepares your meals for you.

Delicious home cooked food

Rebecca prepares breakfast, sandwich fillings, home baking and two-course evening meals for you, making use of local and seasonal produce where possible.

Breakfasts include cereals or porridge, a two-part cooked breakfast such as scrambled eggs and bacon, toast and jam.

Dinner in The Wooden House

We leave a packed lunch tray of ingredients for you to create your own sandwiches at breakfast, enabling you to spend the whole day out and about, with home baking awaiting your return at tea-time.

Evening meals are either soup and a main course or main course and a pudding to suit your tastes and we ask that the children clear the table and load the dishwasher.

The kitchen will be stocked with teas, ground coffee and milk. We ask that you bring any additional drinks and snacks with you at the start of your holiday, or you can arrange to have them delivered to us before you arrive.

Great adventures on the sea and in the mountains

We will guide you on your three full-day adventures and one half-day adventure during your week with us.   We’ll tailor these days to your family and the weather, making the very most of the sea, shoreline, moorland and mountains.   Ardmore is our year-round home and we know the landscape like the backs of our hands.

The remaining days are set aside for you to explore the local area on your own, or just enjoy the house and the croft.

Sea kayaking in the sheltered coves and bays of Loch A Chadh-Fi
family sea kayaking fun

Sea kayaking

Set off from Ardmore, with Mark, in sea kayaks. We’ll take our packed lunches with us and explore the coves and bays of the Loch A Chadh-Fi and Loch Laxford, looking for seals, otters and sea eagles.

family sea fishing holiday

Sea fishing, creels and foraging

Lift creels from our workboat to see crabs and lobsters, fish with handlines for pollack and mackerel and forage along the shore for mussels and winkles.

We’ll land on an island to light a small campfire and cook our catch over the embers.

family mountain climbing

Mountain day or moorland walk

Summit a mountain that you can see from the house or set off together on a lowland walk to the stunning and remote Sandwood Bay.

Thank you for such a wonderful holiday. The food was delicious, the activities were non-stop fun and enjoyable. Thank you for putting a smile on my face everyday, from the morning swim ‘till I fell asleep. My favourite activity was sea fishing and gutting the fish.
