Survival skills and raft build and race

Based from the Adventure School today

The teams returned to the Adventure School yesterday shortly before lunchtime, having walked out from their second camps at the foot of Arkle. Red 1 and Blue 1 and 2 were collected from the edge of the Laxford River, a classic salmon fishing river that runs out of the mountains and into Loch Laxford close to the Adventure School. Red 2 team walked the whole way back and were just in time for the late lunch.

Many stories traded of the mountain expedition over a hot lunch, with homemade soup and bread, quiche and salad, and cake. During the rest of the afternoon the teams worked together to sort out the kit that they had used on expedition, and ready it for the next. With an hour or so left before supper all the team were in the main room, playing board games, guitars and chatting away.

Today has started wet and windy as was forecast, and the teams are based at the Adventure School for raft building and racing, and to learn the survival skills that the teams will need for their night on survival island later in the course.

Were planning to get a couple of teams out on the water tomorrow for a sea kayaking journey while the others will orienteer, collect the catch from their lobster creels and head out to survival island.

Despite damp weather, spirits are high, a really great bunch of young people with some stories and shared experiences from a challenging and rewarding couple of days in the mountains.
