Information about what kit to bring and how best to pack it for our school adventure courses.
We work in lots of different environments here, from journeys in our workboats on the sea, to foraging around the seashore in the sunshine, to cold and windy mountain tops. Temperatures can vary substantially during the week, even in the height of summer. Much of the terrain away from the shore is rugged, without tracks and paths.
Your teachers should send you a copy of our kit list. They may have items that they want to add or policies specific to your school regarding pocket money and packing/carrying personal medication when travelling. Some teachers have been coming to us for many years and will be a good source of information if you want to check something on the list. We are also happy to advise if you call or email.
You can open a PDF copy of the kit list here.
Coming with the correct clothes and kit should not need a major investment but it does need some careful thought and packing by the person who will be wearing and using it. Many of the clothes you have at home or for school sports will be good here, but some clothes won’t.
Watch the short video to get more information on what to bring and how we suggest you pack it.

Please do your very best to come with everything on the kit list. The weather can vary considerably and it can be cold on the mountain tops at any time of year.
Your instructor will work with you to check your kit on the day that you arrive. Items with an asterisk* can be hired for a charge of £10 per item but must be requested in advance by emailing Rebecca (with approx. size) as our stock is limited. We ask that you bring cash in a marked envelope for any kit hire requested.

We are far from the nearest post office and may make a £15+ postage charge for repatriating the kit. With this in mind, please label your kit and clothes in some way, and if your daughter or son packs the contents of the bag themselves before leaving home, we find they are more inclined to bring it all home too.
Please DO NOT bring penknives, multi-tools, aerosols (other than midge spray), chewing gum.
Coming with lots of snacks and squirrelling them onto Survival Island will undermine the quality of the experience for you and your friends.
