The Details

THE DETAILS

Every bespoke course is different.   Rebecca and Mark will design the course with your input so that it matches your aims and ambitions.   All courses make the very most of the incredible land and seacapes around us

CREATING YOUR COURSE

Whether you are looking for a family week, a leadership course or a totally bespoke adventure, a conversation with Rebecca is always the starting point for arranging a course at Ridgway Adventure.

Once we know who the course will be for and what you’d like to achieve we can put together a week to suit your aims.   Whether you want to spend time in the mountains, on the sea or both, whether you want to spend nights under canvas or not, we know the land and seascape like the back of our hands.

We’ll share our thoughts with you in the form of a draft programme that we can tweak and adapt to make sure we get the experience just right for you and your team.

TRAVEL TO US

We’re just two hours drive from Inverness with direct flights from domestic airports, direct flights from Amsterdam, and direct rail travel from Edinburgh, Glasgow and London.

We can put you in touch with coach and transfer providers that we work with regularly, or you may wish to hire a vehicle in Inverness.

Rebecca can give you detailed travel advice and explore all the options with you.

DELICIOUS LOCAL AND SEASONAL FOOD

We serve delicious home cooked food freshly made each day, making use of local and seasonal fare. This might include venison or our locally landed Kinlochbervie haddock.

Cooked breakfasts, packed lunches, afternoon tea and either two or three-course dinners are provided when based at the Adventure School. Overnight expeditions will have tasty and nutritious rations to cook in camp.

ACCOMMODATION

The Adventure School is based on the shore of Loch A Chadh-Fi, just yards from the water’s edge. It is beautifully remote and secluded, accessed on foot only (save for our 4×4 that can travel along the shore at low tide bringing bags and luggage to the door).

A Norwegian style wooden long building houses a spacious sitting and dinning area with a wood burning stove, bathrooms with showers and a number of bedrooms.   The bedrooms vary in size and all have their own wash-hand basin. For bespoke courses we would accommodate only your group which could be anything from 10 to 25 people.

A number of other wooden cabins are home to our cook and instructors and we have an efficient drying room for kit and equipment.

KIT AND EQUIPMENT

Rebecca will provide you with a tailored personal kit list appropriate to the content of your course. We provide you with any specialist equipment needed for sea kayaking, rock climbing and other technical activities. Our comprehensive store of equipment includes a fleet of new high-quality British-made sea kayaks and all wild camping equipment. Argo and Victoria, our two workboats, can operate within 3 nautical miles of Ardmore. We use them regularly for evening sea fishing trips.

Safety

Safety is of paramount importance and the outdoors is not without risk.

We have robust risk assessments and operating procedures in place. These are constantly reviewed, and our staff are suitably trained and qualified to make dynamic decisions in our remote environment. Rebecca, and her parents before her, have been operating an adventure school here for over 50 years without serious incident.

A ‘participation and risk’ statement relevant to your individual summer camp/course is included as part of the booking form and it is important that young people and their parents read and understand this.

Our staff

Our staff hold professional qualifications administered by Mountain Training UK and British Canoeing as well as undergoing a two week familiarisation and training process with Mark and Rebecca before the start of the season.

We complete background checks on all of our staff through the Disclosure Scotland PVG scheme.
