COURSES FOR PREP SCHOOLS

We use over fifty years of knowledge and experience at Ardmore to design adventure courses for years 6, 7 or 8. Each six day course is slightly different, all making the most of this limitless wild natural environment. Every course is run by Rebecca, Mark and their small team of instructors and most schools can have this experience all to themselves.

Real adventures designed to stretch and challenge pupils.

A history of adventure and exploration resonates from this remote crofting settlement and can light a fire in children’s imagination of what is really possible.

Climb a mountain from a wild base camp, sea kayak in a sheltered sea loch teeming with wildlife, learn survival skills, forage for and cook wild foods from the seashore, rock climb and abseil on an ancient rocky outcrop and put all your skills together to survive overnight on an uninhabited island and more.

Our three guiding principles of self reliance, positive thinking and leaving people and places better than you found them, have stood the test of time and form the background of everything we do.

Our prep school weeks are designed to be challenging but are delivered in a caring and supportive way by Mark and the instructors.   Inevitably young people are capable of far more than they realise.

The fun that permeates our courses and that echos across the loch and around the Adventure School comes from children’s successes.   Rising to the challenge, individually, and with their pals around them.

Our prep and junior school teams come to us from all over the UK; like Highfield School in Hampshire who have been coming for over 20 years; Hornsby House School in London who have brought a Year 6 team here since 2007; Dumpton School from Dorset; Westbourne School from Sheffield and St Leonards Junior School in St Andrew’s.

Other prep schools we work with include York House School in Hertfordshire, QEH in Bristol and Newton Prep from London.

More information

I have taken the top year of pupils from prep schools to Ridgway Adventure for more than a decade. The centre, which is very much a family run organisation with powerful and positive values and aims, offers those pupils a real taste of wilderness and independence. The team of instructors, so ably led by Mark and Rebecca, are always superb. Ridgway Adventure is without doubt the best residential centre for schools I have seen.
