All the teams’ summit Ben Stack

A perfect day for the mountain

Despite a mid-breakfast hail storm, the weather forecast was pretty much spot on today. A light westerly wind with a mix of sunshine and scattered cloud. Perfect weather conditions for a summit attempt. We had an early breakfast and left the Adventure School in two waves, with the Red Snappers and Blue Whales being the first to set off and the Red Arrows and Blue Moons about half an hour behind them.

The teams worked well on the relentless initial slopes before the angle of the mountain eases at about 400m above sea level, then reaching a small col and the final steep pull up grassy and rocky slopes to the summit at 720m. Great views out to the west coast and a huge sense of achievement were the reward for all the hard work. The teams lunched at the top before heading down. Another successful Kingshott ascent!!

After an early flight from Luton, Megan, Thomas and Mrs Burnett arrived at Achfary, the small estate village at the foot of Ben Stack just after 1pm, joining the rest of the teams as they came off the mountain before heading to the Adventure School. We managed to get candles into the sticky toffee pudding for supper tonight – Happy Birthday Max!!

The pupils are in good spirits and will sleep well tonight after all their efforts today. Well done team!!
