Team York House School

Mountain success for all!

A grand day out on Arkle

All is calm at the Adventure School tonight after a great day on the mountain. The pupils took it all in their stride with a nice breeze to cool them on their ascent. Last night we camped at Lone, just at the foot of Arkle, with views along the glen to a beautiful sunset beyond.

We set off in our two teams just after breakfast, initially following a stream that tumbles over bright and sparkling quartzite slabs. The stream was low and we followed the waterline, scrambling up the little rocky steps, and around crystal clear plunge pools, drinking the pure water as we went. Genuine excitement from the kids about a beautiful and wild place!

The two teams then worked brilliantly with each other to reach the first of two summits and then traverse the airy ridge that curves around to the second and higher summit (787m).

We were back at the Adventure School in time for a swim before supper of scotch broth and mango chicken curry and rice. Empty plates all round!

Survival skills, search to survive (a wilderness orienteering course) and lobster creels tomorrow before the team set off for their biggest challenge yet. Survival Island!
