Goodbye Liphook, hello Loch A Chadh-Fi!

The Year 7 team from Highfield arrived with us shortly before midnight last night. Walking to the adventure school from the road in the half-light, which is all we get at night in June and July, gave an eerie and wild start to the course. After hot chocolates the team were straight to bed, ready for a further five days of adventure and exploration.

It was quite a view from the top of the introductory walk this morning, heavy and imposing clouds capping the mountains and bright skies and blue seas out to the Atlantic. Many of the pupils have heard tales of their brothers and sisters adventures at Ardmore and now was a chance for them to see the mountains, the sea loch and survival island for themselves.

Sea kayaking and fire, wild foods and lobster creels were the mainstay of the day. The herring gull chicks are growing fast on A Chadh-Fi island and Chris’ red team kayakers saw a seal bobbing up for a closer look in the bay by Ardmore! Most of the kayaking teams enjoyed being out of the boat and in the water as much as cruising around!

The team are out at the bothy tonight with an ascent of Arkle planned for tomorrow. Late afternoon rain today has subsided and the forecast seems okay for our mountain day. Last year Highfield was the first prep school team to make it to both summits of the mountain and we are sure that this group are up to the same challenge!
