The team arrive safely in the far north-west

It is the end of a long day for the S. Anselm’s team but you wouldn’t know it. They have just raced up the open craggy ground from the Adventure School to Cnocc Corr, a viewpoint above the Adventure School.  The pupils have been in this amazing environment since about 2 pm but this is the first chance to get a view from above, and a true impression of the wilderness that is theirs to explore over the next week. We have scoped out the mountain mass of Arkle from a distance. Last years team had to retreat from the first of its two summits in strong winds. Our forecast looks encouraging for an attempt on both summits this year.

Before the intro walk both red and blue teams swam in the sea loch with all the pupils making it out to the raft in the middle of the loch; learnt to pitch the tents that we will use at our mountain base camp tomorrow and sorted out their kit for the coming days.

Tomorrow we will be sea kayaking in Loch A Chadh-Fi, learning to light fires with striking flints, cooking wild foods and baiting lobster creels. After supper we will head out to our mountain camp at the bothy so don’t be alarmed if there is no news tomorrow, we’ll be ‘in the field’!
