York House Leavers arrive in the far northwest
Traditionally the York House Year 8 team have come to the Adventure School in September, the start of the school year. A chance to set them up for the challenges and opportunities of their final year at the school. A chance too to foster leadership skills within the group and develop decision making and independence.
We are all thrilled that, having lost the September trip to circumstances outside anyones control, the leavers have managed to make it here in June instead. One of the final weeks of their time together at York House.
Arriving at the road end at 3 o’clock in the afternoon gave plenty of scope to unpack, check kit and swim together in the sea loch before supper. Macaroni cheese with salads followed by birthday cake went down well with the team.
After supper, it is traditional for the teams to climb to a hilltop above the Adventure School. It gives a 360-degree view of all the places we will explore together over the coming week. Great views across to Arkle (which will be our mountain day) and the first glimpse of survival island, where the boys and Mary will spend Wednesday evening.
The Reds are sea kayaking this morning, with the objective of getting a closer look at survival island. The Blues are heading into the remote Ardbeg Bay to look at the fire, food and foraging skills needed later in the week.
