Camp 4

10 places remaining

*Camp 5 is limited to 20 places and will operate alongside a lovely small independent school from Sheffield that has been coming to us for over 10 years. Their pupils are 12-13 years old and are accompanied by their teachers. The summer camp and school group will operate independently, and the summer camp will have its own dedicated instructors and houseparents from our seasonal staff team, with lots of input from both Mark and Rebecca.

We only have dates at the very start and end of the typical school holiday period, and we appreciate that this doesn’t align with all holiday dates in the UK. If your child is 14 or over, check out our two-week expedition summer camps starting in mid-July and running for most of the summer.

All our summer camps meet in Inverness, and we travel together to Ridgway Adventure.

To book, click the link below to contact Rebecca. She will email you a booking form for your chosen dates and be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Real adventure

Six days of real adventure with newfound friends from across the UK, Europe and beyond.   Most of the young people come on their own, and some with a friend, brother or sister.

Learn new skills from our friendly instructors and finish the week surviving together overnight on an uninhabited island cooking on open fires and sleeping under yacht sails that have taken boats around the globe.

OUR ADVENTURE SUMMER CAMP

Our one-week adventure summer camp is traditional adventure at its best, from a jog or a swim before breakfast, to nights under the stars on survival island.    Here is what we plan to do with every one week adventure summer camp.

Sea kayak on the sheltered sea loch

  • Paddle your own kayak on a mini journey.
  • Circumnavigate an island.
  • Explore coves and bays looking for nesting birds, seals, otters and sea eagles.
  • Jump in and capsize for fun.

Forage for and cook wild foods from the seashore and learn to build shelters from yacht sails

  • Collect tinder and kindling from the hillside and driftwood from the shore.
  • Learn to light and manage a fire yourself with a striking flint.
  • Forage for edible plants, winkles, limpets and mussels, and learn to cook them on your fire.
  • Use ropes, hazel spars, army tarps and old yacht sails that have travelled the globe to make shelters, practising the skills you will use on your own on survival island.

Climb a mountain from a wild base camp

Establish base camp at the foot of a mountain and prepare for your summit bid.

On good evenings we’ll cook our supper on camp stoves before sleeping in tents.

Set off in teams to climb the mountain picking exciting routes along stream beds and ridges to the summit.

Take in incredible views over this beautiful and ancient landscape.

Rock climb on an ancient rocky outcrop

  • Tackle different routes on the climbing crag, scoring points for your team.
  • Work with your instructors to manage the ropes for your friend on the climb.
  • Abseil from the top of the crag

Swim in the sea loch

Swim in the sea loch that laps just yards from the door and leap from the raft for fun.

Fish for mackerel, crabs and lobsters from the boats and see John Ridgway’s 1966 Atlantic rowing boat and Rebecca’s Cape Horn sea kayak

Board our workboats to fish for mackerel which can go with you to ‘survival island’.

Pull lobster creels from the deep and handle the catch of crabs and lobsters before we return them to the sea.

Hear stories of great adventures from Rebecca and see the boats that have been rowed across the North Atlantic, paddled around Cape Horn and sailed around the world.

Race rafts on the sea loch

Build rafts from logs, ropes and mussel farm barrels and race them against each other on the sea loch in front of the Adventure School.

Search to survive

Work in small squads with maps, to navigate a route over wild terrain. Collect clues to unlock the fire lighting flint you will need on the island.

Put all your skills together to survive overnight on an uninhabited island

After your final briefing we will drop you and your team by boat onto an uninhabited island.

Work together to find your ‘kit drop’ and set about establishing a camp for the night, sleeping under old yacht sails and tarps, and cooking on open fires.

It will be up to you and your team, without instructors.

Beach day on empty golden sands

Relax and have fun on a beautiful sandy beach with your friends after your night on the island.   Play beach games together and body board in the sea.

Coming alone or with a friend

Our adventure summer camp operates in small teams (usually 8 or 9 people) for the activities.   The teams are based on age. Everyone socialises together at the adventure school in the evenings and at mealtimes.

Many young people come on their own. Some come with a brother, sister, or cousin. Family members would be in different teams unless they were the same age.

If you come with one friend of the same age, you will be in the same team. We don’t put more than two people who already know each other in the same team. Having more than two friends on the same team can affect the social mix.
