Team Hornsby House

Perfect conditions for summiting Stack

We have been climbing Ben Stack with Hornsby House Year 6s for 15 years. The pupils who came on those early courses are older now than many of our instructors. It is a big part of their week. Not always enjoyable at the time and a challenge for all. The mountain stands proud at the end of Loch Laxford and will be clearly visible to the boys and girls from survival island at the end of the week. For them, a visual impression of a challenge overcome together that will hold them in good stead both on the island and for the challenge of starting a new school in September.

Our decision to delay a day for better weather paid off. Monday had been wild at the adventure school with squally showers. It cleared nicely in the evening to give us a dry but breezy night and then perfect conditions for our ascent to Tuesday.

Three teams picked their own routes up the mountain with their instructors and the cap of cloud that covered the summit first thing moved away. It was blustery at the top but the boys and girls had great views across to Ardmore and the mighty Atlantic beyond.

Final preparations are underway for survival island tonight (Wednesday) and the pupils are set up and excited for what should, with a little effort, be an amazing night.
