Stunning day for Kingshott arrival in the far northwest

The blue sky days continue up here in the far northwest and it couldn’t be any better for the Kingshott Year 7 team who arrived in the early afternoon. Despite the early start at Luton Airport there was plenty of energy and enthusiasm on the walk from the road end to the Adventure School.

After a quick tour and a homemade cookie the Reds went for a swim with Henry and Bryony and the Blues checked their kit with Erin and Zeki. The sunshine and blue skies would give the illusion of warm seas but it is still pretty chilly. The wetsuits take a while to adjust and warm the body. Just the first of a handful of challenges that will come the way of the girls and boys this week.

Later in the afternoon the Reds and Blues swapped over before sitting down for supper at 6pm.

As I write this now (just after 8pm), the four teams are out with their instructors on a high point overlooking the Adventure School in glorious evening sunshine and a warm easterly breeze coming off the mountains. It is the first glimpse of survival island and a good opportunity to set the scene for the week, a little shorter than our normal school courses, but no less adventurous or challenging.

Our plan tomorrow is for a combination of sea kayaking and survival skills before heading out to our wild camp at the foot of Arkle in the evening. From there we will start our mountain day on Wednesday. More updates here in due course.
