Instructors
Work to the full scope of your qualifications leading adventures in the mountains and on the sea and experiencing the buzz of life at the Adventure School.
We recruit a small team of approximately five full-time, seasonal instructors to work with us (Rebecca and Mark) to deliver our one- and two-week courses at the Adventure School. This team is occasionally added to with freelance staff to help during busier weeks, almost all of whom have completed an entire summer season. We often have a couple of instructors returning for a second season.
We are looking for fun and enthusiastic staff who can guide, inspire and motivate their teams to achieve more than they think they can. We aim to stretch and challenge all participants who come on a course here.
The Adventure School has a warm family atmosphere. It is a fast-paced environment, and we squeeze a lot into the courses, making the most of the wild and remote landscape. Instructors can expect to work to the full remit of their qualifications with guidance and support.
Our instructors have their own rooms in comfy wooden cabins close to the shore, and all meals are included. It is an exceptional working environment with lots of scope to make the most of your days off and experience that can help you to develop your career aspirations.
Salary for 2025: between £26,000 and £28,500 p.a. pro rata (£500-550pw)
Accommodation and meals: included free
Season dates: mid-April to late September 2025
Paid holiday: calculated based on 30 days p.a. pro rata

We look for a staff team with diverse skills and prior experiences. Hillwalking and wild camping, single-pitch rock climbing and sea kayaking on sheltered coastal water are fundamental elements of almost every course, so we look for staff members with ALL, OR AT LEAST TWO OF the following qualifications;
If you don’t have one of the key NGB qualifications listed above, we can sometimes support staff through on-site training, supervised assisting and site-specific assessment with our technical advisor. In this way, instructors can guide their group through each course and gain valuable logbook leadership experience.
Many more of the adventures specific to our environment and what we do here, like lobster creeling, foraging and survival skills and facilitating survival island, can all be learned here during our staff training.
A normal driving licence (Category B), with some experience of towing a trailer, is also useful as is a commercially endorsed RYA Level 2 Powerboat (coastal) and any form of sea, surf or coasteering life-saving qualification.
The key components are passion, enthusiasm, understanding, a willingness to help young people grow and develop, and the desire to work to the full extent of your qualifications in an outstanding wild environment. We aren’t like many other outdoor centres.

Ridgway Adventure is hands down the most amazing and wild place I have been given the opportunity to work at. It gives you as an instructor the opportunity to inspire clients while testing and developing your own skills. The small team makes this a really personal place and has given me fond memories to look back on.
