Team 10 Day Young Leaders Course

Young leaders course returns from mountain training phase

The 10 Day Young Leaders course returned to the Adventure School this afternoon after two days in the mountains. The team arrived on Wednesday and went straight to Lone, an old stone stables at the foot of the mountains that we have used for over 40 years as a launchpad for expeditions. Kit was sorted and re-packed and the team ate supper around the table with a fire glowing in the fireplace. Working with Rich and Matt the group split into two and headed out into the darkness to pitch a wild camp some 4km into their route.

Thursday was a skills day up high, looking at large scale navigation tactics and features, with some night navigation in the evening, having already returned to Lone late in the afternoon to cook and get a couple of hours of rest. Today was a later start having night navigated for a few hours and the teams looked at micro navigation picking small features and contours to aim for. All this in preparation for the expedition at the end of the course.

The team plan to set off in sea kayaks tomorrow for a couple of days of skills training with the instructors and a journey along the open coastline.
