4 June 1966: Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Sixty years ago today, Dad and Chay set off from Orleans (Cape Cod) in English Rose III, a small, open wooden dory, traditionally used by fishermen off the coast of North East America. Their 92-day crossing of the North Atlantic and the seeds it sowed have had a huge, profoundly positive impact on all our lives and the many who have spent time here at Ardmore and the adventure school.

All of the young people who come to us with their school or join us on a summer camp see English Rose III, which still sits at Ardmore, tucked in a small wooden cabin close to the shore.

We celebrated with Mum and Dad at Ardmore on Friday, joined by my daughter Molly and this year’s team of instructors.
