An accomplished performance for Year 6 on survival island

Year 6 is the youngest age group we work with here at Ridgway Adventure. Given the proper preparation and then some carefully crafted freedom and responsibility, they can achieve great things in beautiful places. None of it comes easily, but they know they will be rewarded if they put in the hard graft. The boys and girls revel in being given independence and understand that a successful night on the island is entirely in their own hands. What they are capable of is no surprise to us as we see it year after year, but it can certainly be a surprise to them.

The Year 6 team have had the weather gods on their side this week and have taken full advantage of it to create a magnificent week for themselves. They have been endlessly enthusiastic, and we’ve put in some long days together to make the most of the opportunity.

As we write this journal update on Thursday afternoon, the boys and girls are on the beach at Oldshoremore with Ben, Patrick and Kerry. They came off the island for breakfast this morning full of stories of their night. Apparently, the Red Snappers and Blue Whales hosted a party at their camp last night. Who knew! 😂

The Blue Moons were the model of focus, dragging their kit drop far from the instructor’s ark and other teams onto one of the most magical spots on the island (see the top photo). They were totally independent all night, just getting on with all the tasks around camp together.

Such a strong performance from the 10—and 11-year-olds is a testament to all that York House has done in the outdoors through Mr Lopez and their other teachers in the earlier years. The girls and boys have been an absolute pleasure to spend time with in the mountains and on the sea.
