Beach day and second sea kayaking trips

We had a brilliant day at the Durness Highland Games on Friday with lots of the camp competing in running and jumping events on the games field.

Saturday saw the Blues head off on their sea kayaking journey, paddling out in calm sunny weather, onto the open ocean and exploring the coastline which often is out of reach because of strong winds or swell. We stayed out, cooking our supper in a remote cove, on trangia stoves, and paddled back to there Adventure School in the evening light.

The Reds were on the Ardbeg Peninsula looking at the survival skills that would be needed on Sunday evening when they went to the island.

The good weather continued into Sunday as we went to the beach. A chance to chill out and relax before the final expedition to Cape Wrath starts on Tuesday morning. Swimming and beach games were the focus on the golden sands of Oldhsoremore.

Today the Reds will return from the island before heading out in the boats again to lift lobster pots and see the Atlantic rowing boat that Rebecca’s father used in 1966, and her own Cape Horn sea kayak. The Blues will do some more sea kayaking before we start to prepare and pack for the final expedition this afternoon.

A good nights sleep needed tonight and the expeditions start tomorrow.
