Sunshine and showers on day one

The team arrived this morning in time for a quick walk to a high point above the Adventure School and then straight in for a cooked breakfast. The pupils were pretty chirpy after their journey and there was lots of noise around the breakfast table.

After breakfast the Blue Whales took on the Red Snappers at the raft build and race, constructing their rafts from mussel barrels, spars and ropes. Half of each team raced them out to the pontoon in the middle of the sea loch, dropping Mr Hesselmann and Miss Vetsi off before racing back, leaving their teachers out there for the other halves of their team to collect. Lots of splashing and teachers and pupils in the water at various stages.

Meanwhile the Blue Moons and Red Arrows left the Adventure School in assault boats for the short journey across sheltered Loch A Chadh-Fi to Ardmore where Rebecca showed them her fathers 1966 Atlantic rowing boat. On the return leg the teams pulled up lobster creels from the sea loch, catching one particularly large lobster, some brown, shore and velvet swimming crabs, starfish and whelks.

After a picnic lunch outside on the grass the teams swapped around for the afternoon. The forecast looks good again tomorrow so we plan to go sea kayaking, and learn the fire, food and shelter skills that the pupils will need for survival island on Wednesday night. Wild camping tomorrow night at the foot of Arkle, with out mountain climb on Tuesday.

An early night tonight for the pupils after their journey. Another great little team from Highfield, full of enthusiasm for the week ahead.
