Midday arrival leaves plenty of time for kayaking

Calm and sunny today with rain to come tomorrow

The Year 6s’ arrived just after midday on the Skerricha loop road. We loaded big bags from the coach to the trailer and the four teams (Blue Whales, Blue Moons, Red Arrows and Red Snappers) set off on foot for the 20-minute walk to the Adventure School.

With blue skies, calm seas and a poor forecast for tomorrow we took full advantage of the early arrival. Within an hour of the coach pulling to a halt the Blues were getting on the water for an afternoon of sea kayaking and the Reds were heading off along the shore, foraging for mussels and winkles to cook on open fires that they were learning to light.

Plenty of seaweed flinging and capsizing for the kayakers in the warm sunshine!

The Reds and Blues swapped around at about 4.30pm with a quick pit stop for homemade shortbread, before the Reds jumped in kayaks and the Blues went off to create fire!!

Macaroni cheese and salads followed by treacle tart for supper tonight at 7pm and then a short walk to a high point above the Adventure School to get a 360 degree view of all the places that they will explore this week.

The pupils are in good form and have done well to handle such an action packed afternoon after their early start this morning.

Heavy rain set to hit much of the UK tomorrow!! We’ll see what it brings us and post more news tomorrow evening after 9 pm.
