S. Anselm’s arrive in time for a swim

Mild but grey and overcast here today. Mr Watt and his S. Anselm’s team arrived with us just after 2 pm for the short walk to the Adventure School with the bags following along behind in the 4×4.

It wasn’t long until the Blue teams (the Whales and the Moons) took to the water for a swim in the solar heated horizon pool of Loch A Chadh-Fi. The initial emersion is the hardest part and once the wetsuit kicks in and the body warms it becomes really pleasant. Jumping from the raft in the middle of the sea loch is de rigeur for the hardy S. Anselm’s teams that have been coming to us in the past years and we had a wide array of bombs, star jumps, flips and the local speciality, salmon dive.

Meanwhile, the Reds were preparing their sleeping bags and roll mats for our wild camp on Sunday night, and their instructors were checking that their kit is up to the job.

There were marginally more squawks from the Reds as they embarked on the swim.

After supper of macaroni cheese, salad and chocolate cake the teams set off for a short hike to a high point above the Adventure School, to stretch the legs and get a view of all the places that they will explore this week. Drizzle set in for a short while but soon stopped as we reached the top and the pupils ‘flew’ in the wind with jackets opened like capes and arms outstretched.

As I left the Adventure School in the boat this evening to return home, Mr Watt was organising the traditional game of Cluedo and the lights of the Adventure School were glowing through the low cloud that has just engulfed the sea loch.
