Sea kayaking and ‘fire and food’ on Monday

Sunday turned out to be a pretty soggy day but the weather didn’t dampen spirits. We had a bumper catch in the lobster creels with the Green team finding three lobsters in one creel. There was a whopper brown crab, a big dogfish and lots of smaller creatures like shore and hermit crabs. The boating teams stopped in at Ardmore to see the 1966 Atlantic rowing boat and Rebecca’s 1992 Cape Horn sea kayak.

Meanwhile teams were looking at the shelters for the island, mostly built from old yacht sails.

Today (Monday) has been a much drier and brighter day and the boys and girls have been out sea kayaking and looking at the fire and food elements of the survival skills that they will need on the island. Loch A Chadh-Fi has been flat calm and we have seen the sun poking through the high level cloud cover.

We head out to our wild camp at the foot of the mountains tonight before making our attempt on Ben Stack tomorrow.

The girls and boys are are good form and their personal admin is much improved thanks to a bit of wet weather yesterday. Forecast is looking good for the mountain tomorrow.
