Sea kayaking, rock climbing and ‘fire and food’

with plenty of swimming too!

We woke the kids at seven o’clock this morning for the traditional run or swim before breakfast and with blues kayaking during the day, the swimming option was limited to the reds. Over half of the Reds took the bolder option and put the first ripples of the day on Loch A Chadh-Fi.

The Blues were sea kayaking today, exploring the little coves and bays of Loch A Chadh-Fi, paddling towards Ardmore and the mussel farm that sits beneath the wood. There was a goodly amount of seaweed flinging and some games along the way. The also spent time on the seashore either before or after kayaking (Moons in the morning and Whales in the afternoon), looking at the fire and food elements of the survival skills that they will need for the island later in the week.

Some of the ‘Red Deer’ sneaking a swim in before supper today

The Reds meanwhile were rock climbing and abseiling on the outcrops above the Adventure School, and travelling into the remote and uninhabited Ardbeg Bay to do their fire and food skills. Plenty of winkles and limpets for easy picking in Ardbeg Bay too!

The Red Deer had just enough time for a swim before supper!

The year group are endlessly enthusiastic and full of beans. It’s a real pleasure to have them here with us.

Ben Stack beckons tomorrow. A full day out in the mountains.
