The York House Way… way way up north

A blustery and rainy arrival for the Year 8’s yesterday afternoon but not sufficient to dampen the high spirits and enthusiasm. The year group split into three teams at the road end. The Reds, Blues and Greens, with their instructors Henry, Zeki and Bryony. These teams will learn and adventure together over the course of the week as we explore the mountains, the sea and the shore, as we build towards survival island.

There was time for a swim alongside checking and issuing kit so that the pupils ‘day packs’ are set for any adventure. We sat down together for supper at 7pm before heading out to a high point above the adventure school to get a proper sense of the surroundings.

Today started at 7am with a run or a swim before breakfast. As I write the three teams are out on different parts of the remote Ardbeg peninsula looking at the survival skills they will need to employ for themselves on the island later in the week.

It is our intention to head out late this afternoon to establish a wild base camp at the foot of the mountain in preparation for an attempt on the summit of Arkle on Monday.

The pupils are well and on good form. The Blues were even spotted singing along to ‘Boyzone’ on the kitchen stereo whilst drying up after breakfast. Who would have thought it!
