Westbourne arrive in the far northwest

The Westbourne team arrived at the road end just after 5 pm this afternoon. We moved bags from the coach to our pickup truck and trailer and split into the four teams that we will work in during the week. The Year 9 boys are the two Red teams, led by Jon and Zeki, and the Year 8 boys and girls are the two Blue teams led by Emma and Dylan.

The teams walked together for the final mile or so along the track to the adventure school. We had a quick tour and then set to checking ‘day packs’ and kit before dinner so that we are ready to go tomorrow.

After dinner, the four teams climbed to a high point above the adventure school with their instructors. It gives a sweeping 360 degree of the landscape and environment around us that will be theirs to explore over the coming days. It gives a first glimpse of the survival island and is a good place to set the scene for what we aim to achieve together this week.

Tomorrow is a day of rock climbing, abseiling and the fire and food elements of the skills needed for survival island. We plan to wild camp in the mountains tomorrow night and climb Arkle on Monday. We will update the journal again on Monday evening when we are back.

In the meantime, the girls and boys are well and raring to go.
