Dumpton Year 8 tackle both summits of Arkle

Tuesday was a superb day in the mountains with our three Dumpton Year 8 teams. The odd shower passed through in the morning but other than that we had a dry day, warm in the sunshine, cool in the shade and with stunning autumnal colours all around.

Tackling both summits is a challenge. Nearly 1,000m of height gain and over eight hours of walking. It isn’t designed to be an easy day, but something difficult that they will be able to look back on with pride. An achievement that will, quite literally, form the backdrop for the rest of their time here.

With a deep Atlantic low-pressure system rolling in on Wednesday night, we’ll defer their survival night until Thursday, which looks much drier albeit breezy. The teams are all well and are spending today orienteering and looking at the shelter-building techniques that they will need on Thursday.
