Team Twyford Team

Survival skills, swimming and mackerel fishing

It is Monday morning and all four teams have deployed to the mountain with the summit of Ben Stack being today’s objective. It is quite breezy and apart from the odd wisp of cloud, the summit was clear as the teams set off from the roadside close to Achfary.

Setting off for survival skills high above the Adventure School

Yesterday was devoted to survival skills, imparting the knowledge needed to make camps and operate fires safely when it comes to Survival Island. The four teams operated on different parts of the remote Ardbeg peninsula beyond the adventure school using the seashore to forage for winkles and limpets and the higher ground and bedrock for shelters and small fires for cooking.

All but the ‘Blue Whales’ team were back in time for a swim before supper.

The two Red teams went out in the workboats after supper with Mark and Zeki to fish for mackerel. They are in plentiful supply at the moment, one of the many great things about this environment as it begins to morph from summer to autumn. The boats returned with a good catch that will supplement rations on the island. The Blue teams will be out fishing this evening with Mark and Rebecca.

Evening mackerel fishing with the ‘Red Deer’ team.

We are looking forward to our three late arrivals joining the team late this evening ready for some adventures with the rest of the boys and girls.

Late afternoon swims.
