Rain does not stop play!

The rain hasn’t been as strong (or lasted for as long) as the forecast suggested today and whilst writing this at 9 pm this evening the sunshine has returned but a ‘punchy’ westerly wind remains. The pupils started the day with a run, walk, swim or volleyball before breakfast. Six of the team took the boldest (and best) option and went for a swim despite the weather. Others will no doubt follow on future mornings after the example set by today’s ‘swim team’.

Cereal, porridge, toast and bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast this morning.

After breakfast (and in a weather based change to the plan) the teams competed in a circuit of four different initiative tests close to the Adventure School. A chance to hone some of the inter-personal and team skills that are so vital if the pupils are to fill the void left by teachers and instructors who will not be there to guide and help them on Survival Island. 

In the afternoon the Red Arrows and Blue Moons learned how to build shelters from hazel spars, canvas tarpaulins and old yacht sails that they will use on the Island later in the week.

The Blue Whales and Red Snappers set about building rafts from spars and barrels on the shore but by the time the rafts had been built the wind had risen to a level that wasn’t appropriate for racing them on the sea loch. We’ll race them in the next day or two when the wind is better for it.

Cottage pie with veg and apple crumble with custard for supper this evening.

We are hoping to climb Ben Stack tomorrow and will update with more news tomorrow. The pupils are all well and on great form.
