Raft racing and lobster creels!

Mountain ascent delayed by a day to secure better weather

With steady drizzle all day on Sunday and low cloud expected in the mountains on Monday we changed our plans yesterday afternoon, opting to stay at the Adventure School last night, and camp on Monday evening instead. So today, rather than climbing Arkle, we spent the morning raft building and racing on the sea loch in front of the Adventure School, with the Red team and Blue team competing for points in the coveted ‘Ardmore Olimpets’.

Mr Saenger and Miss MacKenzie nobly stepped forward to act as damsels in distress to be dropped off and rescued from the pontoon in the middle of the loch by the rafting teams. In a close fought race, with lots and splashing and seaweed lobbing, the Reds came out on top and snatched victory.

After lunch, the teams took to the assault boats and motored with their instructors across to loch to retrieve lobster creels (also scoring competition points), and to see John Ridgway’s 1966 Atlantic rowing boat.

Tonight, armed with a good forecast for tomorrow, we will head out to the wild camp spot at the foot of Arkle ready for our ascent.
