Reds summit Ben Stack!

Blues kayak and learn survival skills

The Reds woke this morning in their tents out at the wild camp, to be greeted by clear skies and an uninterrupted view of the summit of Ben Stack. A little over four hours later, after cereal, eggs and beans at the bothy and some hard graft on the slopes, they were all standing on the summit. Sweeping views across the west coast and out towards the Hebrides were the reward for the three teams and their teachers. A great achievement for the kids who were all up for an afternoon swim in the sea loch when they got back to the Adventure School! They will be lifting their creels tomorrow amongst other things.

The Blues meanwhile had spent the evening in at the Adventure School, recording their experiences thus far in the John Muir Award diaries. 16 plucky Blues opted for a swim before breakfast (a Hornsby House record), with the rest going for a run along the track. For them it was a day of sea kayaking and survival skills and the weather couldn’t have been much better. The Blues are out to wild camp tonight with a similar calm and sunny weather forecast for their ascent of Ben Stack tomorrow. Good luck Blues!

Our instructors are really pleased with the fun and enthusiastic approach of the kids and they seem well equipped with the skills they need for ‘Survival’ on Wednesday evening.
