Wild and beautiful out at Ardmore Point

The unseasonally strong winds of the last few days have kept us off the mountains today so we changed our objective from Ben Stack to Ardmore Point. The Ardmore peninsular runs for over 3km from the crofts here, out to the Atlantic. It is a landscape of rocky outcrops and hill lochans and great for exploring.

Squalls of rain passed through with great excitement, followed by long spells of bright sunshine. The teams stopped at Lower Ardmore to see the 1966 Atlantic rowing boat and then navigated themselves to the Point with the help of their instructors.

The ocean had great power today and the views in the clear air were amazing. The teams are working well together across a couple of year groups, and all looks good for a day of rock climbing and sea kayaking tomorrow with a night surviving on an unihabited island.

“So far I’m having an amazing time. We are working really well in groups building shelters out of wood and a ship’s sails.

I am really enjoying being in a group where at the start I didn’t know them really well, now we are all good friends.”
