Sunday sea kayaking and rock climbing for Hornsby House teams

Loch A Chadh-Fi was glassy calm on Sunday morning as the girls and boys went for their morning run before breakfast. With a high spring tide we ran shuttles along the vehicle track between to two bays that flood when the tide is at its highest.

After breakfast the Reds and Blues set off with Erin, Zeki and Jon in sea kayaks to explore the loch, learn some new skills and experiment with balance in, on and out of the boats. The Greens set off with Bryony and Henry to rock climb and abseil for the morning on the crags high above the Adventure School.

In the afternoon the teams swapped over but with a strengthening easterly wind we saved the Green team kayaking for another day and instead they learned the ‘foraging, fire and food’ skills that they will need on the island.

Strong winds again today will keep us off the water but the boys and girls are heading on foot around the sea loch to Ardmore, where Rebecca and Mark live, to see the 1966 Atlantic rowing boat and Rebecca’s Cape Horn sea kayak. The teams will stop at different points on route to look at survival skills for the island night.

Our plan is to go wild camping at the foot of Ben Stack this evening, ready for our summit attempt in the better weather forecast for tomorrow.

The boys and girls are on great form and working well together.
