Ben Stack summited in style

Tuesday was almost the perfect day for our summit attempt on Ben Stack. High-level clouds and a stiff breeze helped take the edge off a warm May day. After breakfast, the teams set off from the wild camp, picking their way up the mountain’s open southeast flank.

The Reds set off first and reached the summit first, followed by the Greens and Blues within an hour of each other. The summit offers far-reaching views across the west coast towards the Outer Hebrides. We were buffeted a bit by the wind on the summit, but nothing that would stop the kids.

It is not designed to be an easy day but a challenge that is there for the taking. Ben Stack will now form the eastern backdrop of everything else we will do together during the week. The girls and boys will see it from the lobster creel boats and the island on Wednesday night, a clear marker of something really difficult that they have achieved together. Stretch… don’t cruise.
