Blues win the raft race and the teams head to survival island

Yesterday was a beautiful day, calm and sunny for the rock climbing and abseiling. There was a competitive edge to the day too with points on offer for successful ascents and bold attempts, a chance for all to challenge themselves within the limits of their physical abilities.

The climbing crag is high on the hilltops above the Adventure School, with magnificent views across Loch Laxford to the Atlantic on one side, and to the mountains on the other.

Whilst the blues climbed, the reds were out orienteering, winning kit and equipment for Survival Island on the 3 sq km course of small crags, hill lochans and open ground.

The blues took the honours in the climbing and the reds in ‘search to survive’.

Today was another competitive one, with the teams ending up neck and neck. We pulled our creels up from the sea loch, came across to Ardmore to see the 1966 Atlantic rowing boat and did battle in the raft build and race.

Even the teachers competitive streaks came out with Miss Ellis and Dr Galbraith fighting for their respective causes as damsels in distress; ready to be rescued by their teams rafts.

After a light hearted afternoon the teams headed to the island, a chance to put their new skills into practice building shelters, cooking on open fires and surviving as a team together.

They’ll be back at the Adventure School for breakfast tomorrow and a day spent relaxing on the white sands of Oldshoremore.
