Kingshott School arrive at the Adventure School

Straight in the sea for a swim

The Kingshott Year 7 team arrived at the road end shortly after two o’clock this afternoon. We packed the hold bags into the back of the pickup truck and trailer to be driven along the shore to the Adventure School whilst the year split into four teams and met the instructors who will guide them through the first few days and prepare them for survival island.

There was a bit of time to unpack and be shown around before the two red teams, the Red Deer and Red Snappers, went for a swim in the sea loch. With wetsuits on the initial shock of the cold water is short lived and it quickly becomes comfortable enough to swim a considerable way and then jump off the platform that floats in the middle of the loch. 

Meanwhile the Blues were pulling together the contents of their ‘day packs’, a small backpack with all the essential items to operate for a full day in this remote environment. Getting the ‘day pack’ right is an important first step to self-reliance, a key element of the week.

After a slice of homemade shortbread the teams swapped so the Blues could get a swim before supper. Macaroni cheese, salads and chocolate cake for supper this evening.

At the time of writing all four teams are up on a high point above the Adventure School some twenty minutes walk from the school itself. It gives great views of the landscape that we will explore with the pupils over the coming days and importantly a first glance at survival island!

The team are all well and its great to see Kingshott here with us again. 

More news to follow over the week. It is often posted late in the evening or very early the following morning, when Mark and Rebecca are in the office rather than at the Adventure School with the boys and girls.
