Team Kingshott School

Sea kayaking, survival skills, sunshine and sharp showers

Winkles, limpet and damper bread

Its been a really busy day at the Adventure School. The pupils were woken at 7am for a run or a swim. The aim is to get the blood flowing and set the right start to the day before sitting down together in the dining room for breakfast.

With Reds due to go sea kayaking, swimming priority was given to the Blues this morning and we had a strong team of 11 making their way out to the raft in the middle of Loch A Chadh Fi. Everyone else went for a jog along the track.

Breakfast is a three course affair with porridge and cereals followed by bacon and eggs, followed by toast and jam. Fuel for all that is to come.

With a strong easterly breeze this morning all four teams went out onto the hillside above the Adventure School to look at building shelters from old yacht sails and bivvy tarps. The wind began to ease as forecast at midday and the Reds jumped straight into the sea kayaks to take full advantage of the calm.

Meanwhile the Blues continued with their survival skills, looking at the fire and food elements, foraging for winkles and limpets, lighting fires with striking flints, and cooking a campfire damper bread wrapped around sticks.

The teams swapped over shortly after 3pm with the Blues taking to the water and making the most of the lovely sunshine approaching from the west. Everyone was off the water and back at the Adventure School in time for a 6.30pm supper.

Plenty of short sharp showers today and the dark clouds hovering over the mountains gave quite a view.

All are well, more adventuring to come tomorrow.
