Lobster creeling and raft racing under blue skies

Team head to survival island tonight

Monday was an action-packed day in the hills above the Adventure School. The teams were at the crag in the morning rock climbing and abseiling on the ancient Lewisian Gneiss outcrop. Most the team managed or attempted at least three climbs and the abseil.

We picnicked up on the hillside with blue skies and a nice breeze during the day, before setting out on ‘search to survive’, a wilderness orienteering course on the remote Ardbeg peninsular. It is a chance for them to work independently in pairs or little squads of three, making their own decisions and judgment without the direct input of the instructors. Its great to watch them up on the hilltops with their maps working it all out.

Today has been equally busy with the team running before breakfast. The Reds took on the Blues at the raft build and race this morning, building rafts from old mussel barrels, wooden spars and ropes, and racing them out on the sea loch. 

This afternoon they took to boats to pull up a couple of lobster creels and see John Ridgway’s 1966 Atlantic rowing boat, before tea and cake and heading out to survival island.

Beach day is the plan tomorrow on the beautiful white sands of Oldshoremore. The team are all on good form.
