Mountain conquered by all

The team headed out to Lone after supper last night. The old stone building, which was once a stable for ponies that work on estate, sits in a glen between Arkle and Ben Stack. There are two great (and totally wild) camping spots just 100 yards beyond, one for the girls and one for the boys and after pitching the tents the pupils were treated to a beautiful sunset. 

There were a couple of overnight showers which had passed by breakfast and otherwise we have had another fine day, a couple of spits and spots but some good spells of sunshine too.

The pupils headed off in their teams to tackle the south eastern slopes of Ben Stack. At 720m high and starting pretty much from sea level it poses a real challenge for them, but a challenge that with perseverance and a positive approach CAN be achieved by ALL. And thats exactly what they have done today. 

Some will always find it a little easier than others, and their job is to support and motivate those who are finding it tougher. We’ve seen some great examples of team work and support today and all the pupils were rewarded with sweeping views from the summit, back towards Ardmore and out over the Atlantic.

When they go to survival island on Thursday night, the summit of Ben Stack will be clearly visible, a mark and reminder of their achievements today.

A few tough cookies took to the water for a swim on our return to the Adventure School and a team of 11 have raised their hands for a swim before breakfast tomorrow!!

Raft building and racing, and survival skills part two (fire and food) is on the cards tomorrow. We’ll update the news page with a photo from the mountain too.
