Rock climbing, survival island and the beach

Tuesday was always looking like the best night of the week for survival island so with that in mind we tinkered with the plan a little and spent the day rock climbing and abseiling, orienteering and looking briefly at the shelters that the team could make on the island. Part of their survival kit drop includes old sails from English Rose VI, the yacht that has carried Rebecca and her parents all over the globe. Coupled with hazel spars and pegs they make a great open-fronted shelter. Perfect for the island.

We sat down together at 4.30pm for the usual pre-island cup of tea and piece of cake before heading for the boats. The Red team left first with the Blues following behind in the second run of boats. From the point at which they landed, to the point at which we collected them the following morning they were entirely self reliant. We could see from a distance two well formed camps for each team on the south side of the island and small plumes of wood smoke rising from their fires on the seashore.
